Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly was recently invited by Signal Hill Elementary School in Dix Hills to participate in “Community Readers Day.” The reading event on Thursday, January 17 was held in conjunction with the annual state-wide Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) program.
Legislator Donnelly, other local elected officials and community leaders were greeted by school administration. Following instructions on the program, each “reader” was then escorted to their “assigned” classroom. Legislator Donnelly was the guest reader for the fifth graders in Ms. Short’s and Ms. Reed’s classes. After a discussion with the students about his job, Legislator Donnelly read the book “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein which was then followed by a lively exchange about the book.
“I thank the Signal Hill community for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful reading event,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I was impressed by how enthusiastic and engaged the students were and applaud everyone who helped make it exciting and educational for all.”
